The Hummingbird (Ecological Opera)
Piece for choir, orchestra and two solo singers (baritone and soprano) in seven movements
Duration 40min
Libretto: Hélène Hucher
Music: Gerardo Di Giusto
This Opera entitled "Le Colibri" addresses the topical theme of ecology and environmental issues, and was created during a time of global emergency.
Based on the Amerindian legend of the hummingbird*, this metaphor allows – beyond addressing the ecological theme – to also question the social and civic dimension of our collective strength to be in service to the common good, where “everyone does their part”.
*“One day, the legend goes, there was a huge forest fire. All the terrified animals watched helplessly as the disaster unfolded. Only the little hummingbird was busy, fetching a few drops with its beak to throw them onto the fire. After a while, the armadillo, annoyed by the scene, said to him: “Hummingbird! are you crazy? ? It is not with these drops of water that you will put out the fire! ". And the hummingbird answered him: “I know that, , but I am here to do my part. »
